Increased concerns about higher gasoline prices and the supply of petroleum products have stoked interest in motor scooters, and more importantly, elevated sales of the two-wheeled vehicles.
The Cycle World motorcycle dealership in Athens has seen a ’100 percent’ increase in inquiries about scooters and small motorcycles, and sales have been up as well, manager Mark Bridges, said last week.
‘Very shortly after gas got real expensive … everything in the scooter line went out real quick,’ Bridges said. ‘I think I have only two little scooters in stock right now.’
Rick Hawkins, owner of Java Bajaj Scooters in Athens, confirmed that scooters were in demand.
‘I’ve been saying for years that when gas was $3 a gallon, the phone would start ringing off the hook and that’s exactly what happened,’ Hawkins said.”
