3-wheel, Concepts

(Cyberscooter.it (title link) caught some things that few others noticed)

Whew… It’s been quite a long break, eh? Sorry about that, I’ve been working out a few things here at the home front… can’t say what right now, but there’s definitely some good stuff in development for myself. I’ll keep you posted.

Now then, back to the topic… ADIVA. Don’t search too hard… You’re not going to find them in the USA. The closest thing you’ll find here is the Diamo Velux and you’re not going to find a huge variety in Europe. Looks like they have one model that comes in 2 sizes… the 125 and 250. From what I can tell, Adiva has split off from Benelli (who has a spacey concept of their own) and speaking of “concepts”, what you see in the photo here is some photo scoopage from Cyberscooter.it.

Take the roofed Adiva, stick a 400cc motor in it and graft a front wheel configuration from the MP3 on her and BLAM! What could possibly be the perfect commuter scooter. Retractable protection from the elements… get up and go… crazy stability… CHECK!

This could be a big seller in Europe and Japan, where it may actually be available in 2009. Keep an eye out at EICMA 2008 for developments.

Are roofed scooters like that really practical? Don’t you still get rained on?

    Yeah… just not as much.
The most practical was the BMW C1, due to it’s incredibly effective crash protection. Too bad the displacement was so low… part of the reason they were produced for only 2 years. It was that and the fact that they were too expensive AND you still had to wear a helmet that finally put the nail in the coffin for the C1.

If BMW could have fought harder to make it legal to ride the C1 helmetless (you really didn’t need one if you watch the crash videos), and could have dropped 300cc’s on her… It might still be around today… just not in America. :P

I drive a roofed scooter almost every day and I hardly get any rain on me, even in a good shower.

You still have to wear a (weather and safety) jacket as far as I’m concerned, but with the roof and high windshield, you don’t get a drop on your helmet glass and you can even leave it open so you don’t have any problems with condens on it either.

Just found out your website and it’s great ! lot of info ! But one mistake about te Los Angeles = It was an Aprilia prototype, not Piaggio. You can see the brand at the bottom of the windscreen (red rectangular).
Dunno how it happened because seems it was far before Aprilia became part of the Piaggio group…

And byt he way Steve, in France (and I believe mostly in Europe) the C1 was legal without an helmet. BMW put a 180 or 250cc in it in the end…

Hey David! Thanks for the input!

I see that now… The Los Angeles with a tiny Aprilia badge. Good eyes!

Seems like I had read once that England wouldn’t allow the MP3 to be ridden without a Helmet and citing that as one of the nails in its coffin. It was a great design from a safety perspective!

    Cheers!

    Ooops. Yes. The C1.
As you can see my eyes/mind aren’t quite as sharp today. I blame it on allergies and the accompanying medications.

Have you seen any cool prototypes lately? I’m expecting something to be revealed at the NYC motorcycle show. I hope it’s more than just rumors.

ahahah, no problem, I got a cold too…
from what I know Polaris will reveal a concept (don’t know if it’s going to be something related to scooters… in fact the Vision 800 looked like a crossover… like the Honda PacificCoast in the past !).
I’m only aware of the official news but I’ll be attending the show as a correspondent for french magazines…
