Here you see a chart of Average Retail Gas Prices over the last 72 months. The red hands are pointing to gas prices for December 30th over the last 6 years. It’s already gone up $1.08 US per gallon since January of this year. My unscientific guess is that we pass the $3.00 per gallon mark in July 2010. I’m not hoping here, I’m projecting. What do you think?
A BIG “Thank You!” to GasBuddy for the data!

It will most likely go up for the summer, beyond that is anyone's guess.

It's important not to forget that the long-term, real-dollar trend is downward:

Even though the next "trough" price is somewhere around $1.50 a gallon, it seems we're still in the middle of the worst or second-worst gas crisis yet. I predict at least two more years between $2.00 and $2.50 per gallon (or $3 out here in California).
By then the global economy will be recovering but there will be a number of electric cars available, so where things go next is anybody's guess.
