The Union Leader and New Hampshire Sunday News – 03-Oct-05 – Thanks to high gas prices, scooter sales are sizzling: “Sales of scooters, which can travel 50 to 100 miles on one gallon of gas, are skyrocketing in New Hampshire and around the country as people try to beat the rising prices at the gas pump.

Brian Burris, general manager of Nault’s Honda Powerhouse in Manchester, said: ‘We just doubled our scooter order for next spring yesterday. Scooter sales jumped about 50 percent about a month ago, when people became worried about gas prices.’

‘At the time we saw the resurgence, I ordered what I could get from Honda, which was very few because dealers all across the country were trying to get them,’ he said.

Sold out

As a result, some dealers in New Hampshire are sold out of scooters, while others have only a few left. According to the Motorcycle Industry Council. Nationally, scooter sales, estimated at 86,000 last year in the United States, have doubled from 2000.”
