(Very) Easy RiderGoodbye pickup, hello fuel-efficient scooter: “Easy rider, he’s not. “I’m probably more of a rebel without a clue,” Micky Shearon said. Hardly that, either. Shearon is laughing all the way to the bank on his fuel-efficient Yamaha scooter, his pockets bulging with silver from savings at Granbury gas pumps.
Shearon said goodbye to his Ford Ranger in September and hello to two-wheeled, open-air transportation. He has no regrets. So far, the sand and gravel trucks have cut him a wide berth.
“This is a beautiful time of the year to be out riding,” Shearon said. “It kind of gets in your blood. I can understand how some people would take to riding motorcycles.”
His Yamaha Daytona is less Harley than motorized Schwinn. But it’s no toy, either. Its two-fold purpose is crystal clear: performance and economy.”
