Check out an interview with Drew Milne on his European tour via Vespa. Click to read more.
The grand tour of Europe is a rite of passage for what often seems like the entire population of Australia, but few antipodeans attempt it on a two-wheeled Italian deathtrap. This past week, Adelaide native Drew Milne clanked and sputtered through Budapest on a second-hand, manual-transmission Vespa, having set out from northern Germany on a route that swung through the Czech Republic, Austria, and Hungary, and now has him on a collision course with the Dalmatian coast and southern Italy. (Last we heard he was having clutch problems in Croatia, somewhere near Split.) Contributing editor Sean Jordan, who went on more or less the same fool expedition a few years back, sat down with Milne over steaks at Leroy’s to talk about scooters, European women, leather, and the allure of doing things the hard way.
