A Snipped from The Globe and Mail… Topic no.5 deals with their favorite scooters… Here’s what they had to say:
The Globe and Mail: The year’s favourite bikes: “5 Scooter: This market is growing by leaps and bounds in Canada and I rode a pretty wide cross-section of scooters this past season — with more to come.
Although I love the fact that you can get up to 150 kilometres out of a tank of fuel with the smaller models, I just feel that 49 cc isn’t enough to get you out of trouble, and the little ones basically exclude anyone over 70 kilos in weight. Not to mention, you can’t take the city-loving pipsqueaks out on the highway.
My choice: Piaggio X9. It’s not that this Italian-built scooter is better than its peers — Honda Silverwing and Suzuki Burgman, among others — but it has that certain European panache and is actually fairly peppy, with almost 40 hp on tap.
I feel a bit conspicuous riding one, but there’s no disputing the engineering here and you can ride this size of scooter anywhere.”
