Straight from the “Ouch-that-stings” PR Department, this little report is on the Newswires. Come on China… It’s time to kick it up a notch!
Geely scooters dogged by low quality, sets bad precedent for cars? – Autoblog: “If the quality of products put out by Geely’s scooter division are any indication, potential buyers of Geely cars are in for a nightmare in which vehicles break after a short period and no parts are available to fix them, according to WOOD-TV.
One individual who bought a Geely scooter for $1K says the scooter died after two months, and the parts to fix it just aren’t available. A Geely spokesman said that while he’s not familiar with the scooter division, he could guarantee that the cars that will, they hope, one day be sold in the United States will be of much higher quality and will have the infrastructure necessary to provide parts and repairs in a timely manner.”

Can’t comment on the “sins of the past”, but I have experienced only minor issues with my Geely X8 49cc 4-stroke.

FEM ANALYSIS OF A CVT PULLEY
Testi Riccardo – Piaggio e C. SpA
A failure analysis was carried out on a riveted half pulley mounted on the CVT system of the new Piaggio 850cc twin engine.
First of all, different design variants have been analysed with simplified models, in order to single out the one with the best performance.
The best configuration was then re-analysed with a more detailed model, including the stress state induced by the riveting process, which has been simulated with a separate model. The working conditions corresponding to Piaggio standard endurance cycle have been used to estimate the fatigue damage withstood by the component.
Finally, the critical working condition was singled out and the corresponding stress state was compared with the one arising during Piaggio standard bench test for the component under examination.
