The back of that states the Madass has a mechanical disc brake on the back and then states it has a hydraulic rear brake! Which is it? Also, can you really get it with a 4 speed transmission? It looks fantastic! I want one!
Yup – we were waiting on pins and needles to see how the bikes compared with the media kit. We were pleased to find hydraulics on the rear disc.
The pics also show the european model bar-end turn signals and rear led brake lamp. These were both nixed by USA DOT moving the front signals to the headlamp area with some nice brackets.
I’ll be speaking with the Tomberlin Accessories guy this week for input on bits we’d like to see available soon.
the 125cc definitely has both rear and front hydraulic brakes…
the 50cc model comes with either a hydraulic front and rear mechanical or a front and rear hydraulic set up…
I have seen both from photos.
I am guessing that the answer is that more resent releases of the 50cc series have both rear and front hydraulic brakes while older releases have hydraulic and mechanical.
I’ve been trying to figure this out myself for a few days now and have determined this to be the most logical explanation.
I am trying to figure out all the differences between the 125cc and the 50cc because I want to get a 50cc and upgrade it to a 125cc or higher and register it as a 50cc to beat insurance and registration costs plus having to get a motorcycle license. (basically save money)
So in my search for this information on what I would have to do to turn a 50cc Madass into a 125cc Madass I came accross this issue of the mechanical brake. I have looked at pictures of the bike I am buying and compared it to others I have seen in forums. The difference between the mechanical and hydraulic brakes upon initial inspection is the hydraulic rear brake is positioned at the 1 o clock position (top) and the mechanical is positioned on the bottom at the 4 o clock position. Upon closer inspection the where the cable meets the mechanical caliper there is a noticeable spring.
Hope this info helps, be aware of this when buying your 50cc Madass, make sure it has hydraulic front and rear, they are out there…

by the way/PS~ when determining the position of the caliper the 1 and 4 position is correct when facing the right side of the vehicle.
