Two-wheeler makers to woo men with gearless beauties: “MUMBAI, FEB 15 : The wheel has come a full a circle for the scooter segment. There was a time when traditional scooter makers like Bajaj and LML shifted focus from scooters to motorbikes to cater to the more upmarket, fashion conscious youngsters with more disposable income.
Today the same companies are developing scooters specially for men. However this time, the emphasis is on gearless scooters.
TVS Motor Company which has had a successful ride with Scooty, targeted at college-going girls, is believed to be developing a scooter aimed at young men. Bajaj Auto Ltd also recently showcased its scooter `Blade’, targeted at men in their twenties. But it comes loaded with power, alloy wheels and disc brakes that men will look out for. ‘With increasing traffic in the metros, riding a motorcycle and shifting gears frequently becomes difficult, which is why some men prefer riding gearless scooters. So companies are designing scooters that men would find comfortable riding on,’ say industry experts.”
