Steve leaves the land of the 4-Stroke

(It’s with a heavy heart that I say “Good bye Uhura!”)

Well, it happend. Last night I sold my trusty 1986 Honda Helix. The scoot I’ve owned ever since I lived in Austin. Uhura, served me well. Never had a breakdown… no leaks… no rust… she did an easy 65-70 MPH on the freeway.

Which usually leads to this question: “Why the hell are you selling her?!” It’s just time for a change. When I hang out with my fellow scooter compadres here in Austin, the Helix doesn’t lend itself to conversation.

(Overheard in our Sunday meetup)
2Stroke Rider1: “Hey! I finally got around to replacing my flywheel. While I was poking around in there I figured it was time to replace the head gasket.”

2Stroke Rider2: “Yeah? Cool! I’m still waiting for my Malossi kit to get in.”

While I stand there next to Uhura thinking, “I twisted the throttle and now I’m here”.

Sure she was unique, but truly a commuter scooter more than a social scooter. So now, I move on to the 2 Stroke. I haven’t decided 100% with what I’m going to move to, but once I figure it out you’ll be the first to know. (supplimental images)

***UPDATE***
Got a call from Roman, Uhura’s new owner, and he said he’s lovin’ it! I’m glad to see her go to someone who’s gonna take good care of her. Have fun Roman!

Uh oh, now the universe is open for the next scoot… what will it be???

Too many choices, not enough time!!! We could trade places for a while and I would test everything out there. Good luck with your search (it probably already started, Yes!!)

I’ve got my eye on a couple scoots now… I’ve got to stay within my budget (the amount I got from my Helix), so that eliminates most decent Lambrettas and well polished 60′s GS’s.

    Stay tuned!

    Hey Steve!

4 will get you 2, eh? Lots to pick from. If you see anything in our inventory that catches your eye, let us know and maybe we can ship it out to you. There’s a super sweet hot-rod (90 mph) P125 frame on our floor right now with your name on it!

Unbelievable. I get an attractive 27 year old redhead in a bikini visiting my blog and at the same time, Steve is waving good-bye to his trusty Helix.

Did I wake up in a parallel universe this morning? Is a “social scoot” one that lets you make new friends every time you are broke down along side the highway?

I know how hard this can be; I’ve owned two Helixes (one was in Austin in the 80′s!) at they’re great rides. The last was sold to make room for a Honda Pacific Coast (Kinda the Son of Helix) which begat a Yamaha FJR. No telling where this adventure will end.

Hey Jim! I saw that P125 racer you’re talking about and from the specs it looks like a flyer! I would need more insurance.

Nate! You have entered a web of not sight nor sound but of mind. Welcome to the TwilightBlog. Never thought you’d see me sell the Helix, eh? If I had the spare cash, I wouldn’t have.

Albert! Two Helixes eh? I guess there’s always a chance that I’ll be back for my second Helix.

I should know what I’m getting into TONIGHT!

Steve…I love 2 strokes, my CR125 is an awsome 2 stroke BUT…what kind of 2 stroke scooter is available for highway travel (65mph). I can’t think of any. All the new technology and high speed scootering seems to be in the 4 stroke world. I loved my Zuma but too slow, moved to 4 stroke to get speed. Now 200cc not quick enough looking to get larger (ah but I would love a Stella in British racing green and the tan saddle).

DUDE! I can understand having a vintage 2 stroke for the cool factor. But serious scootin’ on the highway needs a 4 stroke. I hope you have both soon!

    Oh and Nate… this line:

Is a “social scoot” one that lets you make new friends every time you are broke down along side the highway?

Very funny. No seriously we cracked up on that one… mostly because it’s true! ;)

Oh Steve, How COULD you? You’re gonna miss her and that’s fer sure!
I wish you well on your search for a replacement, but we Helix riders know there is truly NO substitute for the ‘best of the best’.
Do let us know when you return to your senses. In the meanwhile, I offer up a prayer for your return to sanity. Oh, the humanity……….

Hey Motocrossed! I think I could do 65 MPH, but I’m not sure how long that could be sustained. I hope I don’t find out the hard way… with a fused piston and cylinder.

Did that GB 150 Stella ever sell in the USA?
