Enthusiasts celebrate Doodlebug scooter’s 60th anniversary

WEBSTER CITY — Doodlebug enthusiasts got together to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the scooter Friday at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The reunion was organized by the Doodlebug Club of America, which is based in Webster City but has members throughout the United States.

The scooters were popular with children in the late 1940s and 1950s despite their steep price and rarity. But many who couldn’t have a Doodlebug back then are attempting to relive their youth by investing in the scooters, which can fetch $3,000 or more depending on their condition.
