Quickly becoming one of my favorite scooter photogs, Photo Mama in Hawaii shares this great shot of a Salsbury owner getting his jollies.
According to John at the Scooter Museum (http://scooter.lst1090.org/), this could be a Salsbury from the 40′s. Whatever it is, it’s in GREAT shape for 60 sumthin!

The model salsbury you are looking at is a model 70 deluxe of 1940 vintage. It is a deluxe because of the spring supported seat. Standards had a cushion mounted directly on the body. Powered by a push started Lauson TLC 2.3 hp and centrifugal clutch to a final chain drive. The model 71 and 72 from 1940 -1943 (apprx) had a variable speed pulley primary belt drive over the centrifugal clutch with a chain final drive. The model 74 (ca.1944=1945) had a Lauson TLC with a kick starter. All of these models were sold solely to the military and defense contractors during the war years and not for civilian use per factory literature. The gentleman in the picture currently has this scooter for sale and I am currently restoring one that has several rare factory options. Hope this helps to educate those who are interested. Further interest can be nutured by joining the Salsbury Restorers Society. Check out our website at salsburyscooter.org and salsburyscooter.com
