The CMSI L-Series "Lambretta" spotted in Milan!

(Arigato gozaimasu to Aki Hasegawa in Japan for sending back photos from Milan! How’s THAT for international?)

Well, I don’t have much to go on from a ‘copy’ stand-point. No media pack information… No official release dates or pricing (yet). All I really have is this sign (click to see the big picture) and the fact that Aki says, onsite they were calling it the L-Series and were NOT referring to it as a “Lambretta” which fits CMSI’s story that goes:

Due to difficulties in securing clear worldwide rights from SIL for the Lambretta trademark, CMSI and its partners have decided that a new brand will enable clear worldwide trademark rights that are essential to worldwide sales and production required to amortize tooling costs for a new model. The basis for the L-Series line will continue to be the classic Italian “Lambretta Style” with excellent performance

Ok, I’m good with that. you could always badge it with aftermarket Lambretta stuff, should you wish to try to fool someone. So, enjoy the photos for now and I’ll be back with more info in a bit.

Here’s a couple more T&A shots (um… Turny-part and Aft?) of the new “not a lammy”.

(Yeah baby! Stick it out there! I really dig the lines. Good attention to detail!)

Here’s a shot of CMSI’s lonely booth. Anyone else curious why they didn’t get a whole lotta press at the show? Could there be any jealously from the European press that an American company is producing the ‘Lambretta”? Or could it be that they were just too far off in the back of the convention center to get noticed? All I know is that I really would like to see the L-Series come to fruition. Please don’t be a vapor scoot!

(and just to help you remember what the ORIGINAL prototype looked like, here’s Steve from P-Town Scooters perched on one like a little kid on a Peg Perego. Thanks for sharin’ Jim!)

***UPDATE***
Here are some more shots of the L-Series at the Milan show and here are a bunch of internals shots. Good stuff! Thanks to markh for droppin’ some more deets on us! Now, I feel up-to-speed on the new “Lammy”. You know what!? They should have just registered the name “Lammy” and gone with that instead of L-Series! Just a thought.

Also, look for updates to their website in early December and Scoot Magazine to give her the full nelson in their upcoming Spring ’07 edition!

Looks much more put together than the first prototype they showed. It still looks a bit broad across the hips. Hopefully they’ve made some changes to the seat and things so it’s a bit more comfortable to straddle with your feet on the ground.

I thought Piaggio had yanked CMSI’s use of the engine they touted about in their previous prototype? Nothing quite like having a Chevy-powered Ford!

Yes please! I’ll take one. That orange color will be just fine, thanks.

That’s a very neat scoot and I would certainly switch to ride one.

It hasn’t really changed all that much. Really just addressing the speedo, indicators, cooling system, layout of some of the internals (larger fuel tank, battery relocation), etc.

Better pic of the internals are here: http://www.lambrettainnovation.co.uk/view_page.php?pid=55

The photos have been up for a while. I check the site regularly. I know all the development in being done in the UK again.

Just to see a Brand New Lambretta made In any incarnation back on the road is better than nothing. And if Piaggio wants to stop the supply of their T&G motor, Tino Sacchi’s all NEW Twin-Cylinder Four speed 250cc OR 280CC motors would meet all emission requirments and Blow away any crusier on the road for speed, power and smoothness… And since it was Degsigned & Made in Paullo, Milan by a group of engineers who’s history is linked with the Innocenti Factory it would be the Best Out come Us Lambretta Nutters could hope for!!! Mind by April 2007 the motors are for sale and will bolt straight into ANY Series One, Two or Three Lambretta So that will offer All of Us Who want to ride a Lambretta a Whole New Option and Lambretta Whole New Lease on Life! Remember- Travel Wise, Travel Lambretta! Cheers for now Wayne Perkins

That G.P. looks mint.Bung the stripes on it and your away.Shame we’re going back to panel handles though. We all know it’s a Lambretta so sod S.I.L.Their G.P.’s were crap anyway.About as reliable as a chinese watch

Debatable whether the Saachi engine will meet any emissions requirements whatsoever. Besides, it isn’t his design – it’s taken directly from Innocenti blueprints and is essentially old technology. The thing is expectedto cost around $8000 just for the engine!

so there are still a lot of “if’s” on this thing…
But if everything goes off as planned, I’d certainly take one of these as a daily rider over a GTS, and of course hang onto my P200 for rallies and weekends.
I for one hope they pull it off. I like many scooterists, have dreams of someday owning a Lammy. This wouldn’t quite be it, but with an old 2-stroke Vespa, and a new 4-stroke Lammy, I think I could be happy.

I’m really hoping the new Lambretta makes it to production, because I would definitely buy one. Since Piaggio makes the engines for nearly every European scooter that comes to the U.S., I don’t see any point in complaining about the Piaggio engine.

Do you think the Knight Rider dash comes with a “turbo boost” button?

Lambos were kind of “less popular” in the early 70′s when I was in Naples. I liked them, and I really like this. I guess the Piaggio Vespas were more affordable for the average Neopolitan.

I have no qualms with the speedo cluster.

I think the scooter will do well if it is priced right. And if they sell it to the right markets. College towns will eat it up. Go to Gainesville, FL. There are scooters everywhere. I think they could find a real market there. Also, I think they should drop there modern retro looking crap scooters. Scrap the Lo-Boy for the L-Series. I don’t mind the fact that the engine is Piaggio. Remember, it’s not a Lambretta; it’s a L-Series. I still want to keep a LI 150 parked next to it. Why would I ride a vintage scooter to school/work everyday? It would break down, or worse; get hit by a old guy driving a Buick. I can loose a L-Series and not care too much, but a LI! Thats priceless (well, in the States). I think, aim at college kids as a trendy cheap way to get around, and keep the price low. Then it will take off.

And I like the Kightrider, TRON, whatever speedo. It’s Modern.

Oh, also (I just posted the one above), make the seat a normal, Lambretta bench seat. Not this happy crap racing seat. At least offer the normal bench as a option. And how do I fit crashbars on it?

I ride a custom painted Gilera Runner 200 to work every day and now looking to replace it. I also own a GP200 but would certainly buy this model to replace the Runner. If this bike comes out at the right price I can see it being a very big seller in the UK! Maybe some of the parts need tweeking a bit in the design department but generaly it looks good and with a decent name you never know one day it could become a classic ;) How about the Elbretta L!

They are nice and a good idea and I am sure that they would sell well, but you can’t beat the real thing with a well tuned and set up TS1 225 and with the new AF fit now available things are looking good.
Thats the buzz of having a Lambretta.
