(Looking at her in person reveals why “Sport” is part of her name. Click on the image to see a few more photos.)
Here we’ve got a 244.29cc 4-stroke pushing 15″ wheels up to nearly 80 MPH all in a compact yet comfortable package. But, don’t let that tiny frame fool you. This baby is SOLID and you’re gonna need a little muscle to maneuver her with the engine off, due to her weigh of 326 lbs and that’s without the 2.7 gallons of gas in her tank.
I’m very excited that Aprilia decided to bring the SportCity 250 to us (too bad the bike wasn’t prepped for me to test ride today). All I can say is “thanks” to Warren over at Ducati Austin for giving us the scoop on her arrival. He said that he’d call us next week after she’s been given her check up. JOY!
If you don’t mind watching raw footage without audio, you can at least see how she handles here.
I believe the MSRP on the 2007 SportCity 250 i.e. is $4,599.00. Pricey? A bit, but when you look at the Honda Reflex at $6,049, the Honda Helix is 5,299, the Honda Big Ruckus is $5,499 and Vespa GTS 250 is $5,999 it seems to be a good deal. I’ll have to verify that MSRP with Warren next week as well.
Sorry I don’t have a whole lot more details, but you can always click on the title link to see what the Aprilia USA site has to say about her.
***Update***
As you know, I was a bit uncertain on that MSRP at $4,599.00, it seemed lower than I anticipated AND after hearing that the Scooter Diva’s buyers guide had it listed at $6,299.00 I had to follow up. After checking with my local Aprilia shop it is confirmed at $4,599.00. Woohoo!
Looking forward to my test drive in the next couple weeks!

Next to the SH300i definitely one of the nicer big wheel compacts out there. It lacks ABS but appearances are goood! I’d keep my eye on build quality though, i spotted a SportCity 200 the other day and the seat-finish was not nice at all.

Very nice looking scooter. I watched the video and it appears to handle well on the street and two-up as well.
I’m still enamoured of the design lines of the Vespa GTS but I’m finding myself attracted more and more to these new scooters.

I hope you get a chance to ride it and report back. I’ve been looking forward to this bike for months. I really dig it, and I think it should outperform the GTS, although the big wheels will give it a different vibe.

Wonder how it compares with the KYMCO Zciting 250 at around $4,900?

I too sat on one but have not yet had the chance to ride it.
It’s a couple pounds lighter than a GTS and I bet it has a higher top speed due to the larger wheels.

Steve, did you take down a “contact me” link? I’ve lost your email but wanted to send you a linkie to a helmet you might want to highlight. Here’s the link- http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/ass-hat/nexx-x60-helmet-lets-you-wear-your-jeans-on-your-head-260137.php. Send me an email if you still have me in your address book.

Hey Nate! I appreciate it, but we actually covered that in April. :( And not a mention on Gizmodo.
Ken B! Thanks for replying. Where was that SportCity 200? I’d be interested to see if there is a build difference. This one seemed right and tight.
Steve W! How are things in the sticks? It’s funny you should say that. I’ve got another friend who is sold on the GTS and I’ve been pushing him to take a closer look at this baby. Could save a couple of bucks AND have a sweet, sporty scoot.
Cramer! Good to hear from you. I definitely plan on giving it a twist in another week or so. I’ll keep ya posted.
Anon. I’ve not ridden the Xciting 250 yet (surprisingly). Another thing, I want to double check the MSRP on this baby. It seemed a bit lower than I expected, but might be correct.
Bryce! Good to see you again. If you get a chance to twist it, lemme know. Maybe one of us can get a head to head going with the GTS.

Now, if we only get some Vespa dealerships to carry Aprilia scooters!
18. May 2007 at 3:51 am
Hey Geno!
I haven’t seen that locally. Vespa dealer has Piaggio and Aprilia is their own ball of wax. Well… Maybe in San Antonio they have them all. Dunno.
I bet our local Aprilia dealer would ship you one, and I bet they’d give you “the hook up” on pricing if you tell Warren that TheScooterScoop sent ya.
27. May 2007 at 3:50 pm
Where did you get that MSRP?
Scooter Diva has it listed at $6299…

Hey Bruha!
$6299 sounds more realistic, but I got that price at the Detroit Eurocycles site here for $4599.00

Last I checked I COULDN’T find the price anywhere on the Aprilia USA site.

Sportcity is one of the best thing it happen to recent scooterworld. It can be ridden in city like any standard 50-125 cc scooter, and then if you need to jump on freeway, no problemo, your speed is 80mph. Other manufacturers like Honda and Yamaha forgets the original intention of the scooter, fast city driving and handling with great fuel consumption. Their product like Helix/Reflex, and Morpheus/Majesty are too bulky to drive in town + those products are more expensive. I have already put 150miles on my Sportcity and I more then satisfied. FYI, I am from Europe and I am riding scooters and motorcycles for more then 37 years. My hat down to Aprilia for this one!

I really do need to get out there and give this baby a test ride. Seems like a product that can’t loose! Nice size engine… Small enough to zip around on tighter streets, fast enough to move down the highway.
Thanks for the feedback Walter. I’m glad you like her.

So, Steve
Time to follow up with that test ride! Why don’t you give Warren a call…
