Here you see my girlfriend… and a nice, young girl named Kristina. Isn’t she beautiful?! I should have given her a bath before the shoot, though I must say her paint came out pretty nice here in the finished product. For more photos of Kristina go to www.ArtsImage.com.

Why do people always name their scooters with female names? It’s just not manly!
I’ll give you this steve – at least you didn’t give it a name fit for a spinster aunt like most people do: ‘Myrtle’ springs to mind (and yes, I did post this on the bbs not so long ago)

Princess Leia! Steve, did you plan that? How does a scruffy lookin’ nerf-herder like you rate a woman like that?

Anon!
Why the female name… ‘Tis a good question, matey. Seems people have been Christening their vehicles with female names for a while now.
Canadians conducted a poll of over 9000 people. The question was, “Have you given your vehicle a name?”
No 75%
Yes, a male name 4%
Yes, a female name 10%
Yes, a generic name 9%
In my opinion, having SOME name is better than none at all (75%).
Riding a scooter with a male name, just doesn’t seem right. “I’m gonna ride Bob down to the Cock & Bull tonight for a few pints.”
A generic name works in some cases. If I had a big-wheeled scooter, I’d probably name it “Trigger”.
But, naming your vessel after a girl goes WAY back according to some research conducted by McFeisty over here:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080327232056AAd0AsO
Here’s what the Wiki had to say about it:
“At the time of the ancient mariners even as far back as 500 BC, most were ‘married to the sea’ due to their love of the ocean. The ships were their livelihood, their home and their love. As a compliment to the woman they loved they named their sailing vessels after them, telling them that it would remind them of the ones they left behind for the months and sometimes years they have would be gone. This caught on. The ‘she’ was also given for things of great beauty found in the sea.. i.e. “Thar she blows!” depicting the massive water spout seen by whaling ships of old which almost all had female names. Even when ships stopped being given feminine names they were still referred to as ‘she’, but basically this analogy was due to a captain’s love for his ship. “Shes a fine ship, Captain” etc…”
PLUS, naming your vehicle a feminine name boosts your gas mileage the same way that painting your scooter red boosts its horsepower. Amazing idn’t it?

Tim! I did plan that, actually. :)
Don’t know if you’d ever heard the name of my previous scooter, the Honda Helix. Since she looked like a prop from Star Trek I decided to name her after the hottest momma on the bridge, “Uhura”.

If that’s your girlfriend I’m growing a goatee …

It can be confusing, but his girlfriend is the scooter. LOL The girl in the photos was really flirting with Steve, but he didn’t notice her as he was too busy buffing out the fingerprints she had left on the scooter’s finish.

Oops, perhaps there was a bit’o confusion there. Leia is my “girlfriend”. I didn’t meet Kristina until the shoot. She seemed nice enough though.

TIM! You cheeky monkey.
I did no such thing!
I didn’t have a cloth baby diaper with me. But I did manage to score some paper towels to remove the dust from the foot board.

My Helix is named “Scooty Puff Jr.”
Who’s ready for safe fun?

…because we straddle them, and ride them. I don’t straddle and ride dudes.

Kristina! What are you doing trolling around some geeky, scooterboy site? Thinking about getting a scooter I bet.
I will admit, it’s the best fun you can have with your clothes on.
You can even keep tabs on local scooter events at http://www.ScooterUtopia.com
See ya there,
steve

Rick! Are you serious? Scooty Puff Jr.? Sweet.
I think that’s the name of some cute little Japanese character along the lines of Domo Kun. I could be wrong.

See Steve! I told you she was sweet on you!
