Florida Today tells a little story how the Space Coast Scooter Crew is tromping all over motorcyclist’s hallowed ground, Daytona Bike Week.
Here’s a snippet:
Scooters attract a broader range of personalities in people, Egan said. There’s the conservative group that likes to meet and talk about their latest upgrades.
Scooter riders, especially those like Karen Ranes who favor the vintage models, can be a rowdy bunch.
“The Harley people are conservative as far as I’m concerned,” said Ranes of Sanford, who is taking her Stella scooter she named Evergreen up to Bike Week.
Ranes said she and her husband rode scooters in the 1970s and motorcycles later on, but had given up two-wheel vehicles until about three years ago when they walked into a motorcycle shop and fell in love with the Stellas.

I was there for the ride. The Space Coast Scooter Crew is the club I belong to. Unfortunately that day was less than perfect weather-wise. Add that to the fact that Quicksilver (2004 silver Stella) is partially disassembled STILL awaiting the inevitably backordered parts from SCOMO so I had to ride Albatross (2000 Sportster 1200c) with the group.
With 2 Vespa’s and one Stella leading our group of 20 or so, mostly Silverwings and other bigger scoots, we were warmly received by many mcy riders and the crowds on Main street. The ride home was one wet, nasty, raw run, putting a damper on an otherwise fine day.
