Seems to be a hot topic lately. People are ditchin’ the Ford F950 Monster Trucks for tiny little gas sipping scooters.

While fuel efficiency has become a priority for many people wanting to buy a new vehicle, scooter sales are revving up.

Houston’s traffic can often be a headache, though not anymore for Rob Hodges.
Three years ago Hodges bought an Italian scooter, a Malaguti, and now he looks like a genius. He rides to work every morning, passing gas stations on the left and on the right. It no longer even matters what numbers they put on the board.
“I actually filled up last night for $2.82. That’ll last me about a week,” said Hodges.
These are heady days for new members of the scooterazzi, like Chad Lyles and Sean Bryan.
“I actually sold some guitars to get this,” said Lyles.
“You just can’t beat 100 miles per gallon,” said Bryan. “You just can’t.”
There are millions of Americans, no doubt, who thought they’d never see the day when gasoline hit $2 a gallon. It was one of those barriers that was supposed to spark fundamental change, and maybe it has.
“Over the past three weeks, our sales have increased about 250 percent over normal,” said Matthew Creede, Apollo Scooters.
When he opened Apollo Scooters six years ago, Creede was ahead of his time. He’d sell three or four a month.
If you have to commute, there’s nothing quite like having the sun at your back and the breeze in your face. Saving $5,000 a year on gas isn’t bad, either.
The gas tank on most scooters holds barely more than a gallon of gasoline. But when you get 100 miles to the gallon, a one-gallon tank is big enough.
