It’s pretty interesting that the Sierra club is endorsing scooters. They aren’t actually any better in terms of emissions than cars. The 2 strokes are fairly dirty (the direct injected models aside), and the 4 strokes aren’t held to anywhere near the same standard as automobiles. The fact that Honda’s Elite 80 has been out since 1986 and despite only minimal changes over the years, it will still pass muster with the EPA for another 6 years.

Yes they do use less fuel, but some scooters pollute significantly more than cars.

Good point. Hopefully exceeding EPA standards will be the next target for manufacturers to eye. I guess right now a lot of scooters are like fast 2 wheeled riding lawnmowers in the exhaust department.
