Scooters gain popularity 08/25/05: “Sales of motor scooters have increased this year as Americans look for ways to cut fuel costs.
Scooter sales at Free State Cycle in Topeka are up 20 percent this year, partly because customers want the scooters’ fuel economy, which ranges from 40 miles per gallon to 100 mpg depending on the model.
‘A year ago, hardly anyone asked about fuel consumption. Today almost every customer asks about fuel consumption,’ said Mark Riggin, owner of Free State Cycle, 4806 S.W. Topeka Blvd.
He said he has sold Honda scooters for six years at Free State Cycle. This year will be, by far, his best year, he said.”
