Police Department Using Scooters to Save Money on Gas: “The high cost of fuel has forced one Acadiana police department to trade in their patrol units for scooters.

A year ago, the Port Barre Police Department traded in their Crown Victorias for Chevy Impalas to save money on gas. But lately, Chief David Richard says gas prices have gotten so out of hand, he’s had to take more drastic measures. He started using scooters for night patrol.

Chief David Richard says the department had been using the scooters for parades and to bring to the schools. The chief says as gas started fluctuating, they needed to make the scooters more active in the community.”
