WIStv.com Columbia, SC: Scooters finding a market in the US: “(Pierre, South Dakota-AP) Aug. 24, 2005 – Some people say they’ve found a way to scoot around rising gas prices.

They say they’re driving 20 miles a day and filling up just twice a month, and those fillups cost $5 instead of 50.

They’re scooter owners, like Connecticut’s Doug Day, who owns a business that sells them. He says they’re practical and easy to park, and most get upwards of 50 miles to a gallon of gas.

The Motorcycle Industry Council says sales have doubled since 2000, to about 86,000 last year.”
