Style is one of the SPORTCITY 125-200’s strong points. The chrome edged leg shield and the aggressive looking double front light unit give the SPORTCITY 125-200 a personality worthy of the Aprilia name.
The SPORTCITY offers a choice of two engine sizes to cover all your urban and out of town mobility needs. The fast and powerful SPORTCITY 200 is the new reference point for urban scooters, with far better performance than any alternative machine. The 125 cc version is just as high-tech, and is designed to give maximum riding pleasure to holders of a B licence (Italian legislation).
Engine technology is another major plus point of SPORTCITY 125-200. The two modern, powerful, yet ecological engines both deliver plenty of power for fun riding while ensuring constant comfort and safety.
The single cylinder 200 cc engine places the SPORTCITY 200 at the top of its class, with brilliant acceleration and a high top speed. The SPORTCITY 200 is therefore perfect not only for urban commuting but also for trips on high speed, out of town roads.
The power that it develops is more than enough to keep the SPORTCITY 125 nippy in traffic and with speed in reserve whenever you need it.
Both engines are liquid cooled and feature Aprilia’s exclusive four valve heads. Catalysed exhausts ensure ultra-low emissions, and place the SPORTCITY 125-200 well within the latest emission control standards.
Miserly fuel consumption and a generous 9 litre tank give the SPORTCITY 125-200 great autonomy.
The braking system, with two large diameter discs is another strong point on the SPORTCITY 125-200. The front disk is a 260 mm unit with floating caliper and two parallel pistons. The rear disc is 220 mm in diameter and the caliper is a double opposed piston unit.
The hydraulic fork uses 35 mm stanchions for precision control and excellent comfort over even the roughest road surfaces. The fork has a wheel travel of 100 mm, just the job for tackling city cobblestones, holes and manhole covers.
The engine and transmission assembly also acts as swing arm. Suspension is provided by two rear shock absorbers. Four spring preload settings allow you to adjust your suspension for maximum efficiency under all load and road conditions. Rear wheel travel is 80 mm, more than enough to smooth out even the roughest surfaces.
The SPORTCITY 125-200 is equipped with 15 inch wheels and large, high profile tubeless tyres (120/70 at the front and 130/80 at the rear). Rolling diameter is therefore equivalent to that of a 16 inch tyre but comfort is far better.
In conjunction with the excellent frame, this intelligent choice of tyres gives the SPORTCITY 125-200 excellent stability and the sort of intuitive feel that makes it a piece of cake to ride even for novices.
The brilliance of the double 55 W headlights also deserves mention.
The large seat provides comfort to spare even when riding two up, thanks to an ergonomic design that provides maximum support for rider and passenger.
The SPORTCITY 125-200’s chassis makes full use of Aprilia’s vast experience in manufacturing powerful, high performance scooters.
Special care has been taken at the design stage to ensure that the frame maintains excellent rigidity even without the conventional central tunnel.
The frame is made from high strength tubular steel, and is designed to give excellent torsional rigidity and strength. This rigid, efficient frame gives the SPORTCITY 125-200 a superior ride and the sort of sports handling that Aprilia is famous for.
The SPORTCITY 125-200 also boasts a comfortable, large and flat platform for extra load carrying capacity. The platform narrows intelligently under the rider’s legs to allow riders to get both their feet quickly, easily, and firmly on the ground.
The SPORTCITY 125-200 is great at load carrying thanks to a large under-seat storage compartment that is big enough to hold your helmet and more. Clever use of space has also enabled Aprilia to build a closed, lockable storage compartment into the rear of the leg shield. This contains a practical power socket for charging your mobile phone. A useful carrier hook is also provided at the front.
The practical luggage rack incorporates robust passenger grab handles and can accept a top box to increase carrying capacity.
The sleek, streamlined front shield provides excellent weather protection and two air outlets deliver warm air from the radiator to keep the rider’s legs warm in winter when used in conjunction with the optional Aprilia leg cover.
The SPORTCITY is the first ever urban scooter to adopt analog-digital instruments with a multifunctional display, directly derived from the latest superbikes. Display functions are controlled directly from the handlebars for maximum safety.

Hi – thanks for this review.
I’m thinking of getting a Sportcity 125 as an upgrade from my Vespa 50cc. I like the look of it and the spec and am test driving one at the weekend. Any negatives about it that you know of? I’ve heard that Aprilia parts can be difficult to get hold of in the UK but that seems strange considering it’s a pretty big brand.

Hey Eddie! Thanks for writing. I believe what you have read above is actually from an Aprilia press release. I personally haven’t had the luxury of testing the Sportcity 125, mostly because we don’t have them here in the USA yet. They are scheduled for a 2007 introduction at which time I’ll see about taking one for a spin around the block.
