The phase “0″ prototype made appearances at several large rallies around the country and Lambretta’s goal of gathering important market feedback has been accomplished. One highlight was the 90 mph that Phil Waters achieved on the prototype during the weekend of the WKRP rally in Cincinnati. Looks like the reputation Lambretta had for performance will be kept safe.

So what is the status of the project? It is not dead as some have guessed and promoted. Far from it, according to the people behind it. However, it has been delayed, and for the following reasons as we hear:

I just had to post the scooter snob’s point of view on the new Lammy… It helps to understand the different points of view on this new Lammy. Stu writes:

This thing is starting to upset me. I think this will lean out the vintage scooter scene. I am a scooter snob for better or worse and I see a big rift between modern bikes and vintage. I respect those with vintage bikes they wrenched on themselves and collectors but consider riders of modern scoots the same as I view the majority of sport bike and cruiser riders. Slap down that credit card and away you go. Thats all fine and the american way but I just dont want to hang with those people. I think the new “lambretta” auto will plumit the value of vintage lambrettas in the same way baja & stella damaged the value of vintage vespas. I do recognise that most people out there who are looking to buy a first scooter are more attracted to the idea of a vintage scoot and that they do not want a hobby but a cheap, “cute”, (gag)stylish form of transportation. Why buy an old expensive bike that will need to be kitted out if you dont want to get run down and you will have to have a ton of knowledge to keep it reliable and on the road with no warranty when you can just slap down the old card and go 65mph with a warranty? My respect and apprieciation for my fellow mechanics and builders has just grown. I guess the old addage “if I gotta explain you wouldnt understand” really is true
So is LCUSA a vintage club?
In short, the new Lambretta can suck my 2stroke exhaust. See why they dont let me out of my cage?
