Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder and lord knows I love me some ugly scooters… but what was the ugliest scooter ever built? By ugly I mean, awkward, unwieldy, goofy, aerodynamicly unstable… A tribute to over engineering.
So far I’ve got one nomination. Germany’s Maiko Mobil, seen below with side-car attachment.
Can you think of something that beats it? Post it in a comment or e-mail me the details if comments aren’t working for you. The winner will receive a special tribute posting in its honor.

That looks like something out of the Jetsons.

That Maico is gorgeous. My 1984 Honda Elite 125 is definitely the ugliest scooter ever. It came in gold or red, has no visual lines that mesh in any shape or form (literally), has a pop-up electric headlight, has a digital speedometer. Ugh – the thing is hideous. I’ve been trying to sell it for months, so I gave up and took all the panels off and put a plate on it and ride it as a 125cc Ruckus. I will probably try to sell it in the spring or maybe mod it more to be like a Ruckus.
FANTASTIC BLOG BTW!

Hey jonbuck! And how about that side car? Looks like some sort of qudraplegic puppy dog. I wouldn’t, however, kick it out of my garage.

Thanks Mike!
and yes I can agree… not only is this a fantastic blog but the ’84 Honda Elite is pretty darned ugly. Do you have any pictures of her before the de-paneling? I’d like to put her her up as a contender. I think the 250 Elite and my 250 Helix are pretty ugly as well.
Scoot on!
