(Yippie-ki-yay USA! The MadAsses are in route to a store near you!)
This is a big week for moped enthusiasts. The highly anticipated Sachs MadAss has arrived and it on its way to a store in your town AS WE SPEAK. If you’ve got a scooter / moped / motorcycle dealer in your town and you wanna see a MadAss tell ‘em to call Tomberlin Headquarters.
We at The Scooter Scoop are eagerly awaiting its arrival here in Austin, complete with the wringing of hands and the wiping of drool. We promise to give you coverage like you’ve never seen… just the beginnings of what to expect from The Scooter Scoop in 2006.

Sorry moped diehards… I meant “NOPED” :)

I was checking the specs, and they don’t align with the picture they showed. The Sachs version of the Madass has disc brakes front and rear. The Tomberlin one has a rear drum, according to the specs. The Sachs version is manufactured in China, so I’m not surprised that it’s been copied widely. It looks like we’re not getting the original, but one of the copies.

Is it street-legal [lights and blinkers], what’s the price, and can I get one in Seattle?

That’s a good point Bryce. I’ll be sure to grill the Tomberlin rep on that when I talk to him next week.
And to Dudel’s question. From what I understand it is completely street (not highway) legal. As far as getting one in Seattle. There’s got to be a scooter / moped dealer getting these in town. I know Ptown in Portland will have them this week… So, you could either bug your local dealer to carry them or make the trek down south.
I’ll be test driving one very soon and I’ll be back with a FULL report.

Who’s getting these in Austin? I want to check one out too.

Only one shop has them in Austin (they should be in TODAY), and that’s Woods Fun Center. From what I understand, only one dealer is allowed in a 20 mile radius.
If you live far south you may have to choose between Woods and a shop in San Marcos or San Antonio (TBD).
I’m still trying to find out all the shops that are getting them in. I’d like to hear some reports on what people think when they see them in person.
