Common Scooter Misconceptions – I can’t haul anything on them

(hauling missle bodies to the UN office… or carpet rolls or something)

Ok. Maybe you’ve been teetering on the brink of getting a scooter as a grocery getter, but you suspect it may be impractical to haul home your standard run for milk, bread, eggs, cheese and beer. You say, “Scooter’s are only good for hauling home a stack of vinyl records or library books.” To that I say “Nonsense!”. Take a look at the photo above. A scooter is practically a pickup truck! I say, forget your unfounded misconceptions and GO WITH IT!

This image “bangkok scooter” is from the Michael Andrews Flikr collection. He goes on to give us a brief background on the photo, “I was in a tuk tuk at the time I took this photo. The thai are very resouceful and this is one fine example!”

Thanks Michael for helping to illustrate my point!

Mopeds are great for hauling too! Especially hauling livestock like pigs, pigs, chickens, goats (I know I’ve seen a picture somewhere), pigs, and such.

What a great picture. You do see things like that everywhere in the east. All it takes is some angle iron, a buddy with a stick welder and bungie cords. Lots of bungie cords! Scariest thing I saw while in Korea was a 125-150cc motorcycle with 3, 30 gallon propane tanks bungied across the luggage rack, just waiting to be sprung free by a pothole to go bouncing down an urban street. Scary stuff!

Yeah Nate, I’d rather had been scootin’ to the island of Menorca than bustin’ down the road with a pile of explosive propane tanks for SURE!
