Just as we had mentioned in TheScooterScoop.TV Episode 1, our good friend Patrick from P-Town Scooters in Portland has developed an easy, step-by-step guide to giving your MadAss another 15 or so MPH. How much does a mod like this cost? ZERO. It’s the P-Town MadAss Rev Limiter Removal trick… and that’s the scoop.

    Well Philip, the Rev Limiter is stuck in there with all the other electronics on the MadAss… keeping the RPMS down to a mellow level and the speed below 29mph. So if you get a MadAss (they retail for around $1999), you can follow this tutorial and BLAM! You’re up to 40-45 MPH.

    I’m still putting a list together of stores that have the MadAss. I’ll check who’s got one in your area.

    I have done this and mine only goes 33mph. Same with my friends’. whats up with the claim they do 40-45???

    Firstly, thanks for posting info like this up for everyone.

    I just bought a 125 Madass in Australia and it goes pretty good.

    Is the 125 also restricted and if I followed your instructions, could i get more out of it?

    Yeah, MGH… I’m not sure what’s up with the 33mph. I’m researching it now to see if this trick only gives you 4 extra MPH. I’ll be in contact with P-Town to see if theirs is faster and make sure they didn’t do anything like a carb upgrade or something.

    As for the 125 MadAss, congrats! I’m anxiously waiting to test one.

    As for Rev limits being set on the 125… I’m not sure. I haven’t gotten to see one in person. I’m leaning toward “no” right now though. The 49cc version is limited for a reason… to keep them within the constraints of what many states call the “moped law”, limiting the top speed to under 40 mph.

    You could probably peek around in there and see if you find a rev limiter on her. Maybe you could let us know what you find!

    Our Australian MadAss 50′s don’t have a rev limiter in there with the CDI. But the bike’s still speed limited, cuts off at exactly 60kn/hr (speed limit in my state). The guys at Monkeybike.co.uk tell me that “on some MadAss bikes, the speed restrictor is buried under the frame, above the back of the engine”. Would be great if somebody could provide more info on that :)

    Exactly what I ran into on my Madass, purchased in Washington State, U.S.A. I would like to see if there is a work-around for the p-town scoot project…

    m a madass 125 owner here in singapore,me a me mates has been wheezing around with it as well as still trying to figure it out,though i got a strong hunch is due to the magneto which could be the root of all missing hp’s.any 1 out there whom already cracked the clue,pls advice.

    Anyone figured out if it is indeed tucked under the frame? If so, how do you get to it? I can’t find the limiter on mine, and I would like to be able to do more than 30 mph while saving up for a new engine.

    i have a madass 125 and all you have to do to get them to go a lot better and sound good, is to put a 26mm mikuni carb with 12.5 pilot jet, and 97.5 main, you gotta get rid of all the original air box crap, and just get a manifold that shoot out above the fuel tap, and run a small pod filter. you then need to go to the tailpipe of the muffler and in between the two original pipes, drill two 12mm holes, and two 6mm holes in a diamond pattern with the bigger holes on top of each other. the way the muffler flows from factory is into a chamber which has a 25-30mm pipe running straight through to the rear chamber, so if you drill into the rear centre plate, you open it right up, but you still keep the deadening qualities of the muffler.

    p.s.
    as for the egr pipe (the chrome pipe coming up the left of the head and going to the air filter), just un-bolt it from underneath, and cut the pipe off where it does a 90 bend and weld it up, then just bolt the flange back on, and "hey presto" jobs done!

    Hay, ive removed the rev limiter on my madss 50(australian model) from the bike and cdi and reconnceted the cdi back to the bike. its ment to work right? However after all that the bike doesnt start??? WTF! but once i reconnect everything back as it was the bike work…

    so how do i remove the rev limiter and have the bike starting up ?

      Hi,

      I’ve had the same problem with my Australian Sachs Madass 50; I removed the limiter and the bike won’t start. I’m guessing that the CDI that comes with the bike may only work with the limiter installed, and therefore an unlimited CDI may need to be fitted. Any ideas.

    hi if you block off the EGR pipe on the 125 you well blow the oil seal on the cluch cover as the moter has no breather on it AUS model

    Dear MadAss lovers !
    Yes, taking of the limiter it won´t work …! unless you change the contacts from the socket coming from engine to 1, 0 , 2! originali they come 1, 2, 0 !
    Then you will get a better torque !
