Right underneath the busy downtown freeways, Matthew Creede preaches about alternative transportation. And people like Medrick Morris are listening.
‘You’re saving about 40 cents a mile, so you can see how quickly something like this will pay itself off,’ said Creede.
Paying more than $100 for gas per week has left him feeling empty.
‘My commute to work is about 20 miles coming and 20 miles going and it’s just getting ridiculous, basically,’ Morris said.

I have a 29 mile one-way commute on my Reflex. I rode it twice this week. At best it takes about an hour. At worst, and hour and a half. But I get 66mpg. I don’t think I can ride it more than twice a week, though.

In a word: Lots and lots of stoplights, and the seat isn’t all that comfortable to begin with. It can get pretty painful. If I hit all them right I can get to work in just under an hour.
I live in San Diego, and the climate for scooters couldn’t be better. I ride along the coast, and they repaved a large portion of the highway last year. I also added a Givi windshield and got a new jacket that make all the difference.
I’m far more comfortable on it than I was. But even after six months I’m just not there yet. I’m taking the safety course this month, though. That might help my comfort level.
