Myth #86 – I need my SUV to haul all my groceries home

(With the proper accessories, you can do almost ANYTHING on a scooter!)

(Including hauling home $154+ worth of groceries!)

Stan-O, aka the “tftdguru” from the Space Coast Scooter Crew, sends us the proof that you don’t need to own a Ford Exorbitant to bring home the bacon for a family of 4. Here his trusty 2004 Stella is seen doing pack-mule chores that most people wouldn’t think possible. Granted, we’ve seen scooters in 3rd world countries pulling off the impossible, but what you see here is totally possible, and not only that it’s ROUTINE for Stan! Check out what he has to say about it:

I make two trips a month for similarly sized loads. This one was heavy on meats (steaks, chops, chicken, roasts, and a 7 lb spiral sliced ham) which I only stock up on monthly. It’s a family of 3 or 4 depending on my son’s home visits from school so we do knock it out pretty fast.

The market I chose for this trip market is 3.6 miles from my home in The Springs on the Longwood-Altamonte Springs, FL border. I can hit my choice of 3 Publix, 3 Albertson’s, or 2 Winn-Dixie’s inside of 5 miles. The scooter’s a little heavy while hand-rolling it out of the parking space but no problem at all in ride or handling once it gets going. Gotta make a trip like this during the day as I can sometimes block the
headlight with the groceries.

The scoot is a 2004 Stella with racks front and rear. It’s named Quicksilver and I frequently refer to it as my Sherpa. The only mod of note is the Sito+ pipe and a larger jet and mixer tube. It’s got 5200 miles on it and is my primary vehicle. It lets me leave the Jeep Cherokee in the driveway most of the time. I’ll take 70+ mpg over 20 mpg any day.

That’s super cool Stan! Looks like you’re puttin’ Quicksilver to some good use! Racks are now next on my shopping list. Thanks for helping us to bust myth #86! (Oh, and thats quite a nice buncha riders you got in yer crew. I don’t remember seeing any groups that large in Orlando!)

I also get groceries with my scoot, though I have some roomy hard bags and topcase. I sometimes need to hang a bag or two on the bag hook, and if cat food is involved, it gets draped-over the back seat.

Wish I had a picture of me getting the Floor lamp, toaster oven and garden hose at a garage sale while returning with 3 bags of groceries on a 1985 Honda Elite 50! What a site but 2 miles from home it seemed doable!

I wish I had taken pics when I rode home during the caselot sale at our local grocery store. I was able to fit three flats of cans in my milk crate on the back of my Stella.
