This Piaggio promo video for the MP3 makes me want one even more

I found this video over at Motoblog.it. After watching the riders push this scooter waaaay further than I would trust my two Michelins, it definitely makes me recalculate my slush fund… and yes, Joey Ramone’s, “Wonderful World” had a little to do with it.

Apologies to the readers on dial up. I, at one time, felt your pain… back in 1996.

As if I didn’t want one bad enough already. I can tell you from personal experience that you too could ride like the people on the Ramones section. You could do that at ridiculously low speeds, in fact.

I liked how they were crossing train tracks and running a slalom on wet pavement.

Isn’t that thing like, $10,000 – or something ridiculous like that? Why would you buy it? If it’s wet out – why not buy a used car and one or two scoots?

I just do not get this… oh wait! Ya, I do! It’s for people who never learned to ride in the first place!!!

    Now I feel better. :)

    Hey Jo,

I hear much disapproval from you and I know not everyone is gonna dig it. Especially fans of smaller rides.

I don’t think it’s quite as bad as it’s been made out to be though. First off, it’s not $10,000… It’s actually $6,999, which is not THAT bad for a Piaggio product.

I agree that there are times that it’s nice to have a car… Rainy days, grocery days, bringing the kids to school days.

But, where the MP3 fits in is for the variations or unknowns. Maybe you live in Florida and it rains every day at noon for an hour but it’s sunny otherwise. Maybe something happens and you blow a tire… You still got 2 more which MIGHT make the landing a bit easier.

As for your last point… It could very well be a good option for newbie riders or riders who are incapable of riding a standard motorbike/scooter and don’t want a trike.

I think it would make a great commuter scoot. At $7k, it’s a bit pricey, but you get the freedom and economy of a scooter with a confidence inspiring ride from 3 wheels.

I don’t think I’ll see one in my garage anytime soon simply because my scooter habit is a lot like the law of the Sith Lords… There can be only one. We’re working on that part though.

Would you like it better if they brought over the 500cc Gilera version? Besides super cars, what kinda scoot / moped do you ride Jo?

I’m curious what sorts of people love the MP3 as well as the type of people who hate the MP3.

Oh, yeah! THAT’s what I’m talking about.

The MP3 currently heads my wish list for a larger scoot than my Stella (which I will own forever!). It’s just ahead of the as-yet-unavailable in NA Kymco Xciting 250 w/ fuel injection, and the Vespa GT250.

Ok, it’s good they’re going to be using this stuff for St. Patty’s day. They’re probably safer than horses in terms of crowd control and all.

But for the commercial aren’t they pushing it just a little bit? I mean is it really going to be that ‘sporty’?
