Sensitivity Poll

It’s been a while since we’ve had a poll around here, but a recent comment from a reader in Atlanta had me a bit concerned. Seems I’ve lost cool points for my choice of words in THIS post.

Perhaps it was a poor choice of words and, while I may come across as brash, insensitive, or crude sometimes I never intend to disrespect someone for their diversity. I embrace it! Who knows… maybe I need to lighten up… take some sensitivity training, become a Buddhist.

Well, enough with self-defense… Let’s see what the jury says.

I would draw the line at republican jokes. You do live in TX after all.

Don’t let it get to you. Some people are offended when the sun rises in the morning. I’d be offended if someone stole my scooter or hit me in the face with a wet fish, but never by words.
I thought the post was funny. Keep up the good work.

David! You know Austin isn’t Texas, right? Hehe.

And aCraig… Thanks! I’ll be sure to disengage the wet fish when I see ya. ;)

Can you imagine the chaos that will ensue if that commenter ever runs across anything by Jeff Foxworthy!

Also, Steve is correct. Austin isn’t Texas… It’s Berkley East! ;-)

“Rednecks” are the only group it is PC to make fun of, so I can see why someone might be sensitive… still I don’t think it was offensive at all.

    Berkely East…. LOL!

Ahhh. Ok. Anon came back with a comment (http://wapurl.co.uk/?DZIQRV4) that says:

“I was just seeing if you were still watching this thread. I really enjoyed finding your scooter stuff. I wasn’t offended. Wish I was living back in Austin.”

So… Looks like he was just pullin’ my chain. Although ONE single solitary person in Nashville doesn’t appreciate my “sense of humor”. So… As of today I will OFFICIALLY CHANGE! My underwear.

Readers in Springfield, Huntsville, Atlanta, Memphis, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Ogden, Chattanooga, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Hartford, Greece(?), Japan (Google Maps doesn’t label everything in American… so I don’t know about those last two) and Sydney say I’m not doing my part to offend my fellow scooterist – 30% of the voters Calling me “Way too Politically Correct”.

So… In light of this data I will drop my books on Buddhism and start start studying the great Punk rockers of the world. Perhaps I can learn a thing or two from Sid Vicious or Henry Rollins… Oh, AND there was a GREAT deal on cigarettes at the gas station today, so I decided to start smoking.

Maybe when you move back to Austin Mr. Anon I can do my best to really piss you off and you can tell me how I’m progressing or… regressing as it were ;)

I just find it amusing that Rednecks have become “sensitive”! Keep up the good blogging Steve; we could use some more attitude in biker-blog-land.

Why are you so worried about what other people think of you? Maybe you need some professional help

    Is that an offer Bryan?

I think it’s human nature to be somewhat concerned about how others perceive you… That is until you reach “codger” status and at that point you couldn’t give a squirrel’s nuts about what ANYONE thinks. “Kids these days with thar fancy, synthetic 2-stroke oil. Back in MY day we didn’t have 2-stroke oil, we had 1-stroke oil and had to use it twice!” That kinda thing.

But, what it really boils down to is that I don’t like to be misunderstood.

You know… as long as people are offering professional help around here… I could use some help on this rock wall I’m building in my back yard. Maybe even a little elbow grease.
