Your favorite bug-eyed 2-stroke is back from the grave! Yamaha, who at first didn’t wanna mess with the whole 2-stroke emissions certification mess, decided to give her one more go due to popular demand. We haven’t had a chance to to a point-by-point comparison to check for differences with the new model, other than “New carburetor settings and exhaust catalyzers for clean exhaust emissions.” but we are glad to see her back.
Hotsumi will be happy since her last one was ‘kicked to da curb’.
Coming this August with an MSRP of $2099! Thanks to Keith Wahl for the scoop!

Man oh man am I psyched. I gave up my Zuma several years ago and have gone through two small motorcycles. Neither has won my affection like my Zuma. I will pick one up a soon as they go on sale. I just need to give her a little bit more hp.

Is this going to avail in cali? Or are new 2-strokes never again to grace the roads of the golden state?

The only differences between the 05(06 here in Canada) and the new 08 is different paint scheme, black metal tranny cover instead of silver with a black plastic cover, new emmissions controls (hopefully derestricable….), and for some reason the Yamaha Canada website claims that it has a manual choke lever on the handlebars, but this could be a typo on their part… (wheras the states gets auto choke again…)
I am happy to see it’s return, as as cool as the 4-stroke 50′s may seem on the outside, they just seem to lack the power of our beloved 2-strokes…

I’m also glad to see it back in Yamaha’s lineup. I notice that it is also supposed to have storage under the seat. That’ll be a welcome addition.

yeah the manual choke is a typo. I was riding one all summer. Great little scooter, not sure if its any slower than previous yw50 but it’s faster than a C3. I’m hoping to pick one up soon!
