Custom

You knew that The Purple One was a scooterist, right? Well, I’ve seen him on one. Anyway… if he knew a Purple Velvet Vespa PX existed he’s probably snap his fingers and have his legion of sex kittens build one for him.

Thanks for sharing Nico_chelseagrl!

Hey! That’s my scoot! And it is a 1979 P200e, not a PX. Not that you can tell from under all that crushed velvet.

Thanks for featuring Perlita in the Scooter Scoop – I’m a regular reader and feel very honoured now.

No, WE are the ones honored! Thanks for building and sharing Perlita with us! She’s beautiful!

(oh, and thanks for the correction. I’m not the best Vespologist on the block, that’s for sure.)

I looked at that thing again… and usually I jerk my eyes away in disgust at a scooter with fabric stuck on it. But, Perlita is HOT!

How long did the custom work take? Was it a very pricey project? What was your inspiration?

Ha ha – that’s funny about jerking your eyes away in disgust. Actually, the idea started when I saw a sport bike covered in fun fur. It made me start thinking of all the cool things I could do to my Vespa.

My friend and scooter guru, Glen B, figured out how to do it and Perlita’s beauty is entirely because of his hard work.

Once we started working on it, it took a few weeks to put it together. I’m not totally sure of the cost – a couple hundred $ in parts (velvet, epoxy, glue, pink metallic flecked naugahyde, etc.) plus some money to have the original paint stripped and to have the seat recovered. A couple hundred $ more for a new muffler and other parts, since we had it apart. And I owe Glen many, many meals and beers for all his work and time and ingenuity.
