Product Plugs

Lorenzo sent us the scoop on some sweet tires for you snow riders out there… granted he sent it when there was still snow on the ground some weeks ago, so I apologize if this scoop is getting to you late.

It’s the Iceman Spiked scooter tire from Schwalbe in Germany. Here’s how it’s described:

With around 150 spikes, ICEMAN provides the safest grip on ice and snow. Also available without spikes, the serrated tread and S1A, winter tread compound offers great performance during the colder months. Note: Please abide by local laws regarding spike tires.

I don’t know about the laws surrounding spiked tires, so you’re on your own there. I do know however that they are available in the follow formats:

I know some riders out there who are SERIOUS all weather riders (hats off to you). If you’re looking for a set to help keep you on road while you’re waiting for the snow to melt then contact Klaus at Schwalbe North America at www.schwalbetires.com. Tell ‘em TheScooterScoop sent ya. I don’t think they’ll give ya anything, but it never hurts.

Thanks for the scoop Lorenzo!

The North American portion of Schwalbe shows that they are out of all sizes except 100/80-10 and 130/70-12 (at $120 and $141 each).

They also appear to have a nice assortment of scooter tires . When you look closer though, it is hard to tell if they are just entering the scooter market here, or if they are trying to shut it down. Many of the styles are out of stock in all but 3 or 4 sizes(out of the 16 or so that they list for each).

Thanks for this Steve. I would ride more in the winter (Chicago) but my sweet little Honda Elite 80 stalls in the cold.

Hrm. Well Mythdraug, I hope they are just entering the market. I think they’ve been around in Germany for a while but are just arriving here (I’m not positive though). I’ll do some more research to see.

Hey Annmarie Kneebone! Chicago, eh? Poor little Elite, it’s like the Chihuahua of the scooter world. If you’re thinking about an upgrade, I’d hold off a bit on the MP3. I hear there are steering/tilting issues in the cold.

Well darn about the MP3 – but better to know now. I have been Jones’n for one of those. I wish I could get a Silver Wing Trike conversion, but no luck yet.

So about the MP3in the cold … any idea how cold we are talking before it starts to become troublesome? One of our cars just died and we’re looking to trade the one that’s still working for a Smart and then I want to upgrade my Elite.
