ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) – Think you’re feeling pain at the gas pump? Consider the residents of Lime Village, Alaska, an isolated Denaina Athabascan Indian community where gasoline prices have hit $8.55 a gallon.

The price is severely curtailing movement around the interior Alaska village, where four-wheelers are sitting idle, said Ursula Graham, administrator for the Lime Village Traditional Council.

“Nobody’s going on joy rides, that’s for sure,” Graham said.

It’s surprising how crummy snowmobile gas millage is!

At least with dog teams, you can catch the fuel rather than importing it.

I would worry about a grizzly bear grabbing me. If more people start riding Vespa’s around the interior you can be sure you’ll see some Winchester Model 94′s mounted on the side like cowboys used to do on a horse…

Great idea Vespabelle! Hrm… Though, the dogs I know won’t be of any help.

Steve! If anyone knows about riding in the sticks, it’d be you. I’d like to see a Vespa done up in old west apparel. Leather saddle and a leather clad leg shield. Maybe make some handle bars that look like reigns. A helmet with a raccoon tail on the back.
