(Austin scooterists ready to buy a pint for Mike Martinez and Randi Shade)

This from News Radio 590 KLBJ

Scooters and motorcycles will have their own parking spaces in downtown Austin if two City Council members get their way. On Thursday, the Austin City Council is set to hear an ordinance calling for a study on registering scooters for use in parking spaces on Austin streets and licensing the two-wheelers at City Hall.

Council Member Mike Martinez, co-authoring the measure with Council Member Randi Shade, says it would benefit traffic by reducing the amount of cars on the street. He says under the plan, one parking space per block would be designated for scooters and motorcycles and parking would be free of charge for people who have registered at City Hall.

Martinez says there are no formal methods for parking scooters downtown.

Man, that’s the best thing I heard all day. Shout out to the Honorable Council Member Mike Martinez’s Executive Secretary Jazmin, known to you modernbuddy readers as “MadToLive“.

First of all, you are not ever going to see a more handsome group of men standing in front of the capitol.

Second, I have just become a Randi Shade fan even if she bashed that cute, Asian city council person whose seat she won in the election.

Third, YES!! I am so stoked! No more annoying glances from jealous motorists from us parking on the sidewalks or tickets from the fine men and women who protect us.

Yet another reason to love Austin. Thanks for the scoop Steve!

    Lorenzo! I agree. “w00t!”

Tim! I welcome it and if I can find out the formula for making it happen, I’ll tell the world! (or at least TSS readers).

Danny! I agree if I do say so myself. Or more accurately “you’re not ever going to see a more handsome group of capital 10k shirt wearing, Vintage Vespa scooter riding, married with children, computer geek, Hooligans standing in front of the capitol. And THREE CHEERS FOR MIKE MARTINEZ, RANDI SHADE and you too Jazmin!

Haha Gary! Well, “that guy” is wearing more than he normally wears… Let’s see… T-Shirt, ok. TheScooterScoop shop shirt, ok. Capitol 10k volunteer shirt, not the norm, just for the occasion. Then there’s the standard issue ICON jacket (which LOOKS like 2 layers) and the good old Mil Spec vest. All that adds up to being “damn hot” that day.
