TheCoolHunter, in the UK, stumbled across this print ad for Vespa Australia last year and I think it really get’s the job done. There’s no half nikked chicks on scooters. There’s no poorly placed photoshopping of the scooter on a beach somewhere. There’s no shot of the scooter surrounded by a bunch of nonsensical tech embellishments. As a matter of fact, there is NO SCOOTER AT ALL! Still this ad communicates perfectly the idea of “breaking out of the gridlock with a Vespa”. Hat’s off to you Vespa AU!
Thanks to @samcarew for the scoop via Twitter!

Nice ad!
Vespa and Genuine are about the only companies out there who know how to market and advertise.

Of course, I wouldn’t advocate lane-splitting even in places where it is legal…

Hmmm, good concept, but in Australia they drive on the left. Is someone trying their hand at being an ad designer?

I can just see a car door opening :(

They drive on the right in Australia?!

Yep, they drive on the right, just like in Japan and England. That’s why they can get Japanese domestic cars with right-hand drive. That is a great ad. Where is lane-splitting/filtering allowed?

Ahhh! We’ve been played! I completely got sucked in…April 1st is the post date, dudes!
Nice.
To be clear, in Australia, England, and Japan, traffic passes you on your right. Thus, you drive on the left side of the road (right side of you car interior). : )

Truly an amazing ad if only it was real….

India, Bermuda, just about all of the commonwealth drives on the left. And I don’t mind the half naked chicks myself.

And there’s a Pontiac Grand Am in the foreground. NORTH AMERICA ONLY! Trust me, I know this….

It was just flipped for the non-Commonwealth market …
