Historically, Icon Motorsports has been a rider gear company that’s been everything to everyone. It didn’t matter if you liked the mechanic look, the “pants optional” Power Ranger look, the Ghost Rider look, the ninja look, the zombie look, the vintage racing look, the medieval knight, the Dragon, the Dragon, the Monster, the Rocketeer, the Pop Star (I’m joking on that last one, I think, but you get the idea), they had you covered.
One theme that has continued and expanded in their inventory over the years is the pissed off, stressed out, aggravated (agro) look. It hasn’t quite gotten to the degree of this example on the right… but I figured that if you gave ‘em a a few more years that all their helmets would look like varying degrees of this. Well, do you know who was WRONG? ME! Icon must have taken some anger management classes recently because they just released a very practical pair of full-face helmets called the Hi-Viz.
For around $220 (MSRP), you can pick up the Hi-Viz helmet in Cross-Walk Yellow or Traffic Cone Orange and these buckets are better than your standard, high visibility, day-glo colored helmets because they include reflective graphics for superior night-time visability!
The shell design is based on their very successful, safe and comfortable Alliance model. Check out Icon’s website for more details or just go pay a visit to you local scooter / motorcycle shop. It’s always better to buy a helmet locally, where you can make sure they fit your melon, AND your local shop could really use your business about now… if you know what I mean. If you DON’T know what I mean, stay tuned for my scooter state-of-the-union address coming up soon.

In general I like the design of Icon Gear, but they plaster their name all over it so you are nothing but some unpaid advertisement.
How many places does this helmet have “Icon” placed on it?
Icon; loose the “Billboard Look” go with attraction rather than promotion.
Good gear is it’s own advertisement.

I think I prefer the look of the Fulmer M1 Trident “Flamethrower” edition. Same fluorescent orange / reflective mix but in a flip-face design:

Here’s a pretty through review of it from November 2008:

Unless something else better comes along, it’ll likely be my next helmet purchase.

… and Fulmer’s reasonably-priced AND a Tennessee company!

Whats wrong with Portland?

Nothing, of course. But living in Nashville, and working VERY part time at a Nashville dealer, it’s great to be able to get a special order from Memphis the next day for only $5-6. ;)

What *is* funny about Fulmer… our shop seems to be the only one selling Fulmer at MSRP. The several other dealers in town sell them ABOVE MSRP.
What, $119.95 for a full-face modular just seems too cheap? ;)

What is also funny about Fulmer is how cheaply made they are.

My Icon Mainframe is more cheaply made than my Fulmer AF-655, and the Fulmer cost me half what the Icon cost.
