Big smiles per gallon: “SoHo Scooters in Newport started over coffee and music. Heather Buckley and M.J. Stallings, who make up the acoustic duo Rhythm and Muse, were rehearsing when the scooter boutique started as an idea, and by March 2003 it became a reality.

‘I’d just sold my coffee shop,’ Buckley, former owner of Enzo’s Coffee and Dry Cleaners in Covington, recalls, ‘and I was looking for something else to do. M.J.’s husband, Mike, owns Richwood Powersports (in Florence). He’d returned from a trade show and saw scooters as up and coming.’”
