2-Stroke Ban AKA The Clean Air Act

I’m not one to fight a good clean-air act, but I will agree that it sucks for the Scooter tweaking crew. Nothing tweaks like a good carb fed 2-stroke.

I just started doing a little research to see how this Clean Air compliance is gonna work for 2006. Of course you won’t be buying a new 2-stroke in 2006… or at least no very easily.

I found a little doc from the EPA (caution PDF alert), but what exactly is the deal with lawn mowers, weed wackers and the like? Are they going 4-stroke in 2006? Maybe Ditech? Or, are they gonna enjoy another decade of leniency?

I guess (as do many others) this is why we arn’t going to see things like the MadAss anytime soon.

Is it fair? Are scooter riders being unfairly punished? Funny that a country that wouldn’t sign the Kyoto Treaty would enforce a federal ban on 2-strokes. Maybe it’s a plot by “the man”! I’ll be spending a little time digging into the whole “2-stroke ban” to try to answer these questions. If you’ve already done the research, maybe you could fill us in.
