I know this has been covered by motorpassion.com and motoblog.it, but I figured I’d make sure you saw the video. It may be a bit choppy if you don’t let it download all the way first. You can see some pretty cool developments coming from Japan… let’s hope they get some of them implemented.

The hardest thing to get used to when watching the video is the traffic style of Japan… When you watch this video you’ll see some shots where you might say “WTF?! They NEED hightech safety in Japan!” Enjoy!

It took a while to get around to looking at the video. The ideas here are interesting but I don’t think I would like riding with a large single eye 8 feet off the tarmack and behind me. The idea of a special screen telling me what’s going on is probably a distraction from seeing the roadway and the voice in the helmet would drive me nuts. The video screen would definitely take my attention away from the road… closest calls I have had have all been when I looked away from the road to check instruments. For all that I still like the amount of thinking that is going on here… the face recognition part is really special!!

The only ‘true’ safe scooter in the world is/was the BMW C1, due to the simple expedients of having a (wraparound) roll/crash-cage and a safety belt. YOU CAN’T IMPROVE ON THAT. Any other attempt is just a waste of time and money, not to mention that it will not provide the same level of protection those two simple elements do.

I can agree with all of you… not to be agreeable or anything, but I think they should start with the safety core… the passive safety… the only thing that won’t break when your electrical system is in the fritz, the cage. I love the C1′s design. I would have like to seen it in a 400cc and in the USA, but I’m afraid it will be YEARS before we see anything like it again and when we do, it will probably be from Honda.
