(Caution “F-bomb” in the first 5 seconds of the video… keep volume low)

You know what, it’s a BIG hypothetical, but if I had to choose between a Bugatti Veyron or $1.5 million dollars worth of cool scooters and microcars for me and my peeps, it’s an easy choice. Yes, I admit I do kinda like the Veyron in our official color pallet (Black and Lime), but I would still go with the small stuff. THAT’S why I’d like to give a shout-out to Travie McCoy for his new music video for his song “Billionaire”… one of the first songs I’ve heard in pop music that uses the word “billionaire” without using the words “ice“, ” bling“, “Bently“, or “Cristal“.

It doesn’t matter that the guys aren’t dyed-in-the-wool scooterists, or that it’s probably the first time they’ve ever ridden a scooter.  Their heart is in the right place and it looks a LOT more fun watchin’ them cruise Venice beach on a Vespa or Mini Cooper instead of taking “tha douchemobile“.

They’re (scooters) kinda “trendy” now! Why are y’all surprised? Leave it to Viacom and the rest of these mass media pimps to commericalize and suck the cool factor out of anything that once required a die hard fans attention, adulation and extensive research. Especially when some of the same people that are soooooo captivated by their favorite artists were quick to scrutinize you for doing the same thing years before. Screw ‘em all, I’m going to ride……..PEACE!

I’m no big fan of mega media, but if Viacom can talk a bunch of drooling fans into riding scooters, I’m good. My nightmare is a bunch of music videos where Katy Perry and Justin Bieber are rolling a fleet of Toyota FJ Cruisers through town.

Ride hard brotherman! Tomorrow I upgrade a MadAss with help from a special guest. Video to come.

    Cool!

Vespas are so for The Gap crowd and they have been for a decade. Nothing new here.

If I never see another skinny hipster with a hoop ring, that will be too soon. Those things just invite padlocks.

Awww, poor skinny jean wearin’ hipsters… they finally get their comeuppance and their look goes pop. Who’s going to be the next counter culture in the US now? Geek is pop… Gay was pop… Hip-hop went pop… Emo’s been pop… Goth went pop. Maybe Joe Dirt Greaser is up next? Or, did I miss that one?

Another thing to consider: Where did the Vespa appeal go wrong? Was is the shallow pop-appearances in movies and music videos that blew it for them? Is it the fact that the modern Vespa is on the upper end of the pricing spectrum… perhaps associated with the more well-to-do? Before they were, as Ben says, “Gap” they used to be oily and gritty and show up in cool Adidas commercials. Would we feel the same way about Vespa if the economy was gangbusters again? Just something to consider.

So that’s what’s running through the pea-brains of these young hipsters, huh — no work, all play, and become instant billionaires? Whatever happened to hardwork? And I will seriously slap the next punk who says “not work hard; but work smart.”

    Nice scooters, though.
