Hopefully the brains behind this super-modified creation wasn’t the one putting his brains out ahead of it. Clearly this happened nowhere near California, because this was breaking even more laws than a typical west-coast mopedder would think to.

I was just thinking about the sane limits of moped tuning as I rode to work this morning on my Tomos.

In my experience, once you start pushing a moped past about 45-50 mph on the street, and make the necessary mods to the tires, brakes, suspension, frame, and riding position to make those speeds routine, there’s not much of the original moped left. The cost of all those mods also pushes your budget past a lot of good second-hand motorcycles and scooters that could go even faster with far less likelihood of blowing up. That leaves just three possible advantages to building a super-moped:
    1) The incredible amount of hard-core mechanical experience gained along the way.
    2) Racing it, if you can find comparable competition.
    3) Having the most certifiably insane ride in town.

I think that may have been 85 k/h, not mph. Still recklessly crazy.

You think? That looks faster than 53 MPH. Although, I don’t know how he would have gotten it to go 85 MPH. Nitrous?

It looks like the cars have European license plates, so it could be k/h.
    It sure looks fast, though!

The peg on the speedo looked to be well into the three digit range and that makes it at least 62 mph.

    Definitely a crazy man.

The video was taken in Turkey / Izmir. I’m from Turkey also. We can see moped driver like this at underdevoleped cities. But many people drive their scooters normaly. And a little reminding: We use km/h not mph.

Hey Onurdemir! Thanks for the insight from Turkey! Do you think he was actually going 85 km/h? He couldn’t have been doing 136 kph, could he?
