TheDay.com, New London, CT: “Guilford – Robert Slover could likely fill the gas tanks of his fleet of 18 scooters before just one standard-issue SUV gets its fill. And, although he’s been a scooter enthusiast for nearly a decade (and is one of just a handful of “odd scooter” collectors in the country) Rob happily admits he fell even more deeply for the two-wheeled wonders during the recent gas crunch.
“The smallest commuter ‘grocery-getter’ is going to give you 125 miles per gallon. Your butt will get sore before you run out of gas,” he points out with a grin.
And that’s on a two-gallon tank, Rob adds, recalling that recently, “… I was filling up at $3.49 a gallon, and I said to the lady next to me in a Ford Explorer, ‘Whew! It’s getting expensive to fill up… $6.50 for a tank of hi-test!”
Rob’s current scooter collection ranges from grocery-getters to interstate travelers. Rob defines a scooter as a vehicle you put your legs through, versus a motorcycle, which riders must mount with the swing of a leg. Scooters are not mopeds, which are motorized bikes with pedals. Like motorcycles, scooters travel in regular street traffic.”
